Our Approach

At the heart of our work is a belief in the body’s natural ability to heal when it's given the right support.

✽ What Is Mineral Balancing (MB)?

Mineral balancing (MB) or nutritional balancing (NB) is an approach to supporting the body and giving it the resources it needs to heal from within. It in and of itself does not include any aggressive ‘kill’ or ‘detox’ protocols, and is centered on the idea that when the body has the resources (nutrients) it requires to function and adequate support of the glands (adrenals and thyroid), it can begin repairing, eliminating, and rebuilding on it’s own without aggressive protocols.

✽ What Is an HTMA?

An HTMA, or a hair-tissue mineral analysis, is a soft tissue biopsy used to determine the supplements that best suit you on your MB journey. Essentially, it’s an analysis of the mineral concentrations in your hair. To get the most accurate and most recent mineral concentrations, you will use the ROOT of your hair as your sample. To take an HTMA, you will receive instructions upon confirmation of your appointment with us in email. Once you make your sample, it will be mailed to the lab and analyzed, where the results will be sent to your practitioner. She will then make her analysis based on the results, and you will discuss your plan and recommendations together.

✽ How Is an HTMA Used for Mineral Balancing?

Once you’ve collected your HTMA sample, you will mail it to the lab where it will be analyzed and the results will be sent to your practitioner. Using the values, she will be able to gain insight into the functioning of your glands through the eyes of mineral balancing. This can be observed using mineral values like calcium, magnesium, sodium, and potassium, which—from the standpoint of mineral balancing—paint a picture for the functioning of your adrenals and thyroid.

✽ How Do I Do Mineral Balancing?

To start mineral balancing, simply schedule an appointment titled ‘MB Intake’ with the practitioner you feel suits you best. If you’re stuck between one or two, or do not know if MB is right for you, you can schedule a 15-minute discovery call with the practitioner(s) you’re interested in and ask them general questions about MB, services, or their personal approach.

✽ Who Can Do Mineral Balancing?

MB is a great option because there are very few limitations on who can do MB, unlike some other modern ‘protocols’. Of course, this is subject to approval from your healthcare provider, though, because we do not know your individual situation.

That said, those who are pregnant, breastfeeding, or trying to get pregnant are approved for MB, with several alterations being made to ensure all of your nutrient ‘bases’ are covered—just let your practitioner know you are expecting or trying to conceive! In fact, MB can really support fertility and perinatal health!

If you’re looking to support your teen, child, or infant through general health and wellbeing or from a chronic or acute health condition, MB can also help. MB has been used successfully with all age groups, dose-adjusted of course!

Additionally, those looking for reprieve from chronic health conditions like autoimmunity, allergies, autism spectrum disorder (ASD), attention deficit disorder (ADD/ADHD), mast cell activation syndrome (MCAS), histamine intolerance, gut imbalance, hormonal imbalance, chronic inflammation, infertility, mood imbalances, and long-term chronic and complex illnesses tend to see a big difference in longstanding symptoms with time.

For someone looking to optimize their health or even to improve performance, MB may also be a good option. Essentially, you’re just giving your body the raw ingredients and support it needs to run as efficiently and effectively as it can, and to improve its resiliency to the many stressors the body faces in the modern environment.

Finally, if you’re looking for support into older age, MB can give you the support you need to optimize protection against DNA damage, and to support repair and healing that will keep you resilient into old age.

✽ Who Can’t Do Mineral Balancing?

We cannot say MB is approved for everyone because we do not know each and every bio-individual circumstance. However, in the clinic, we do not work with people who have an active cancer diagnosis.

✽ Do I Have to Do MB with You to Work with You?

You most certainly do not! While we like to use MB as a basic ‘start point’ to get everyone going as we believe in the importance of what it supports, you do not have to do MB if it does not align with what you’re going for. All of our practitioners come from different backgrounds and trainings where we have other tools in our toolkit to support you in a direction towards optimal. That said, if you’re wanting to work from a different perspective, you can schedule a regular intake consult with your practitioner of choice rather than an HTMA intake.

✽ Do I Have to Sign Up For Mineral Balancing Right Away?

If you are not set on MB but want to start with us using a physical intake, you may schedule a physical intake and pursue MB later with a ‘MB Follow-Up’. The intake you will do with your practitioner should be adequate to provide them with the info you need for your MB journey.

✽ How Long Until I See Results on MB?

For some, results on MB are instant and they notice an improvement in generalized symptoms, like fatigue, brain fog, energy levels, sleep, and general mood. For others—especially those with more generalized symptoms—it can take some time for effects to set in. Additionally, it’s important to note that with the introduction of supplements, there can be symptoms that arise related to ‘detoxification’. As a result, there can be a temporary regression in certain symptoms. However, they should not persist (and if they do, this should be communicated to your practitioner to ensure there are no changes that need to be made on your programming).

✽ Are There Any Bad Effects of Mineral Balancing?

As a friendly disclaimer, we find it important to say that not every experience is clearly a linear improvement, especially when the issue you’re choosing MB for is chronic (and maybe complex). That said, there may be periods of improvement mixed in with some seemingly regressive periods. This can occur during periods of elimination, adjustment, or rebalancing of the microbiome. These periods of detoxification should not last long and should be supported by your practitioner.

✽ What Is Included with an MB Intake or a Follow-Up?

With an MB intake or follow-up, you will receive:

  • an appointment with an indicated duration of time with your practitioner;
  • a review of any sent lab work you’d like to share with us prior to consult;
  • an HTMA, with a downloadable form included in your appointment confirmation and instructions on how to complete it;
  • two (2) emails in between appointments asking questions on programming or experiences (note: no large protocol changes will be made via email, in most cases);
  • food/nutrition review and guidelines;
  • a food list;
  • your MB analysis and recommendations, often sent out prior to consult so you have time to review it;
  • a handout on optimizing detoxification and elimination; and
  • lifestyle recommendations.
✽ How Often Do I Need to See You for MB?

If you’re just sticking with MB and don’t need much help in between, you really only need to see us every three months when you’re due for an HTMA retest. However, if you find you need more support in between, there are a few options….

✽ What If I Need Support in Between?

If you’re looking for support more often than every three months…

  • You can schedule a regular follow up visit with us, with a duration of 30, 45, 60, or 90 minutes.
  • You can also sign up for Voxer hours with us, which is a monthly subscription where you can ask questions on day-to-day symptoms or occurrences you may have. Please note this is not ‘unlimited access’ to us and we do not make protocol changes (unless small) over Voxer, but we are very responsive and do tend to answer questions quite regularly during the working day! Please be aware some of us are not on US timezones, so there may be a stagger in our reply. If this is something that interests you, please ask the practitioner you’re working with—we will have to see you first before Voxer hours are available.
